Description
Have you ever wanted a simple, complete, bootable backup of your hard drive? Have you ever wanted to upgrade to a larger hard drive with minimal hassle and without reinstalling your OS and all of your applications? Have you ever wanted to move your entire Mac OS X installation to a new computer? Then CCC is the tool for you!
CCC makes these tasks simple by harnessing the Unix power built into Mac OS X. In addition to the features that CCC has provided in the past, version 2.0 offers synchronization of the source and target as well as scheduled backup tasks.
Now you can setup a regular backup regimen that occurs in the background, even if you are not logged in! Version 2.0 also offers enhancements for lab administrators, including the option to run pre and post-flight shell scripts, the ability to modify the list of items to be removed at the end of a clone, and the ability to create a disk image on the fly.
One of CCC 2.0s most exciting features is the ability to create a NetBoot image from a fully customized Mac OS X installation. Version 2.1.1 offers the ability to create ASR-ready disk images and includes some minor bug fixes and improvements to the documentation.
Important compatibility note:
CCC 1.3.1 is NOT compatible with Mac OS 10.2. There are fundamental changes to Mac OS 10.2 that are not accounted for in version 1.3.1 (and earlier) and any attempts to clone will yield an improper clone. Please use CCC 2.2.x with Mac OS 10.2. Version 2.2.x can, however, clone a volume that has any version of the Mac OS installed.
Also, CCC 2.2.x only runs on Mac OS 10.2 and above (again, though, v. 2.2.x can clone older systems, just not while booted from the older systems). This was not an easy decision, but I dont think Ive left 10.1.x users in the cold; v. 1.3.1 is really quite good, and as good as it could get given the OS limitations. Committing to 10.2 exclusively meant that I could drop a lot of hack code that existed to workaround problems solved many OS versions ago. I was able to reduce the amount of code used by about 15% and offer some really nice optimizations resulting in a faster and sturdier application. If you would like to clone your 10.1.5 system before upgrading to Jaguar, use CCC version 1.3.1 instead.
