Description
TuneConnect is an AppleScript Studio application for Mac OS X that allows you to control iTunes on a remote Mac, using just your local network. Big deal, its already been done& programs like RemoteTunes from Ovolab can do that, I hear you say. Well, is RemoteTunes free? Or better, open source? Ha, I didnt think so!
TuneConnects power lies in a technology built-in to Mac OS called Remote Apple Events. Remote Apple Events allow different programs to communicate over a local network (and even the Internet, when properly configured). All that needs to be done in preparation for TuneConnect is to enable Remote Apple Events on the remote computer, and youre ready to go! Its really that simple& TuneConnect connects to the remote computer, you enter the name, artist, album, or genre (or any combination of the four) of the song that you want to play, and iTunes plays it.
Why would you want to use something like this, you ask? Glad you did!
* Use it to control iTunes from a remote computer during a party, while the machine thats playing the music displays hypnotizing visualizations
* Play your music on a computer with better speakers than the one youre using, without spending big bucks on AirPort Express (for example, if you have a desktop Mac and a laptop, youd probably want to play your music over the desktop computer because laptop speakers are usually pretty bad)
* Better yet, use it with AirPort Express& grab your wireless laptop, and use it as a remote control for your stereo!
* Use it on your local computer (computer name localhost ) as a mini controller for your copy of iTunes. Download Growl, and use it to supply notifications of changing tracks while you work.
* Play an April Fools joke on your friend, and scare the living daylights out of them when a song mysteriously starts playing&
